Getting Ready for Your First Brand Video? A Boston Video Production Company’s Advice
If you’re a small business owner creating a video for your brand - whether it’s an About Us, a homepage intro, or a leadership message - chances are, you’ll need to speak on camera. That can feel daunting if you’ve never done it before.
At Bunker Hill Media, we’ve helped tons of business owners prep for their first on-camera interview. Most of them aren’t actors or influencers. They’re people just like you—focused on running a great business and wanting to show up professionally for their audience.
There are usually two main ways this type of video gets filmed:
Our teleprompter set up with SauveBio.
Option 1: A Sit-Down Interview Style Setup
This is where we (the producers) sit just off-camera and ask you thoughtful, guided questions. We’ve planned them out ahead of time and will help you shape your answers in real time. You’re not looking at the camera - you’re looking just past it, talking to a real human - usually me or Sam! This format is ideal for About Us videos, founder stories, and brand messages that benefit from a natural, conversational tone.
How to prep:
Don’t memorize your answers. Seriously.
Instead, know your talking points - the key ideas you want to communicate about your business, your values, and what makes your work meaningful.
Trust that we’ll guide the conversation and help you get to the good stuff. You don’t have to get it right on the first take (or the third).

Option 2: Reading from a Teleprompter
Sometimes it’s important to deliver a message word-for-word. Maybe your brand has approved copy, specific language, or a tight time limit. That’s when a teleprompter is the best tool.
We’ll set it up so you’re reading straight into the lens, and we’ll coach you to make it feel as natural and engaging as possible.
How to prep:
Practice reading your script out loud, several times - ideally in front of a mirror.
Focus on smiling, projecting your voice, and pausing at punctuation.
Read slower than you think you need to. The goal is to sound clear and confident, not rushed.
Ask your production team to adjust the scroll speed to match your pace on set. We always do.

More Tips for Either Format:
1. Wear Something You Feel Great In
Dress like yourself, just a slightly more polished version. Solid colors are best, and avoid busy patterns or logos. If it’s a seated setup, be sure your top looks good on camera and bring a backup, just in case.
2. Don’t Worry About Being Perfect
We edit! You don’t have to deliver anything in one take. We’ll guide you through the process, help shape your message, and make sure the final product feels like you—just the best version of you.
3. Know the Goal of the Video
What do you want your audience to feel or do after watching? Whether it’s understanding your process, connecting with your story, or taking the next step with your brand, keep that intention in mind. It helps shape your delivery.
4. Ask Questions Before Shoot Day
At Bunker Hill Media, we always send a creative doc that outlines what to expect - but if you’re working with another team and don’t have that kind of prep, don’t be afraid to ask:
Will this be interview or teleprompter?
What should I wear?
How long will we be filming?
What’s the tone you’re aiming for?
Final Thoughts
Being on camera for the first time can feel uncomfortable—but it doesn’t have to be. Whether you're reading from a script or answering interview questions, the most important thing is that you show up prepared and relaxed.
You know your business better than anyone. Our job is to help you share that with confidence, clarity, and a little bit of style.
