Camera, Lighting, Sound, and Crew
High-quality interviews are one of the most important – and most misunderstood – parts of video production. A great interview isn’t just about asking good questions. It depends on experienced crew, controlled lighting, clean audio, and a camera setup that gives editors flexibility in post.
At Bunker Hill Media, interviews are a core part of our work. We capture interviews as part of our own branded content and corporate productions, and we’re also regularly hired as a Boston-based interview crew by agencies, production companies, and brands coming in from out of town.
Whether you need a single sit-down or a full day of interviews, we bring a professional, broadcast-ready setup and a crew that knows how to deliver consistent results.

A Professional Interview Crew
One of the biggest factors in interview quality is crew structure. Professional interviews work best when each role is focused on a specific responsibility.
Our standard interview crew includes:
Director / Producer
Works directly with talent, guides the interview, and ensures the conversation supports the goals of the project.
Director of Photography (DP)
Responsible for camera selection, framing, exposure, and maintaining visual consistency across interviews.
Gaffer
Designs and executes the lighting plan, shaping light for flattering skin tones and depth in any environment.
Audio Engineer
Handles lavs, boom placement, levels, redundancy, and time sync to ensure clean, usable audio.
This small but specialized crew allows interviews to move efficiently while maintaining a high production standard – especially important when schedules are tight or multiple interviews are involved.

Professional Interview Camera Setup (Sony FX6 + FX3)
We shoot interviews using cinema-grade Sony cameras that are trusted across commercial, documentary, and broadcast productions.
A-Cam: Sony FX6
The FX6 is our primary interview camera, offering excellent dynamic range, natural skin tones, and a cinematic look that still feels authentic.
B-Cam: Sony FX3
Used for a secondary angle, tighter framing, or profile shot. Matching Sony color science ensures consistency between cameras.
Lensing
We shoot exclusively on Sony glass, using a mix of prime and zoom lenses to ensure flexibility across every interview scenario. This allows us to dial in the right look – whether that’s a shallow, cinematic frame or a more versatile setup – while maintaining consistent image quality and coverage throughout the shoot.
Why multi-camera interviews matter:
Two-camera setups give editors flexibility, allow for cleaner cuts, and help maintain pacing without relying on jump cuts. For professional interview productions, this is often essential.
For larger productions, our kit is expandable with additional Sony cameras and lenses. No setup is too big!
Interview Lighting Designed for Real Locations
Lighting is often what separates a professional interview from something that feels improvised.
We travel with a fully built lighting and grip package, allowing us to create a polished interview setup in homes, offices, studios, conference rooms, hotels, and other real-world locations.
Our lighting kit includes:
Aputure and Amaran fixtures
Key, fill, hair, and background lighting
Diffusion and modifiers
Flags, negative fill, and grip support
The goal is simple: interviews that look natural, intentional, and consistent – regardless of location.
Broadcast-Quality Interview Audio (With Redundancy)
Audio quality is non-negotiable. If an interview sounds bad, it doesn’t matter how good it looks.
Our standard interview audio setup includes:
Sony wireless transmitters + lavaliers
Sennheiser MKH 416 shotgun microphone on boom
Zoom F8n Pro Recorder
Timecode / Tentacle Sync for post-production
Using both lav and boom provides redundancy and flexibility, protecting against wardrobe noise, interference, or unexpected movement.
For out-of-town productions especially, ensuring clean audio on the first pass is critical. There is nothing more debilitating than opening media in your editor to discover unusable audio.
